Wicca is an earth-based, peace harping, nature religion which acknowledges the Lord and Lady, or God and Goddess, and the One or The All. The Divine.
Created by Gerald Gardner in the 1950's, while witchcraft being illegal in England, when Witchcraft became legal, he started to "come out of the broom closet" and open up Wicca and Witchcraft.
Not until, many initiates and researchers of Witchcraft came along, from the USA and UK, and met with Gardner, and started forming what is now to be Wicca. From writing books, starting covens, rituals, etc..
Gardner gained much popularity, and did very well in forming Wicca. There were times when he was a part of the New Forest Coven (NFC), which Wicca and the Crafts popularity and system went down, but he didn't want to admit being a Craft practitioner of Witchcraft, he did try to not make it "banish".
Many practitioners, US, UK, and Australia, were able in later decades to bring Wicca and Witchcraft to use.
Scott Cunningham, Doreen Valiente, Margot Adler, Margette Murray, D.J. Conway, etc.. bringing Wicca to its core.
While many misconceptions of Wicca and Witchcraft still exist, there are ways to clear them.
Wiccans worship Satan. This, along with Wiccans sacrificing humans and animals, is one of the biggest misconceptions out there which doesn't seem to stop.
There are many more misconceptions about Wicca and Witchcraft, but which can probably lead into books!
Wiccan's believe everything of the God and Goddess, or Lord and Lady, is in everything in the Universe. Rock, trees, rain, clouds, deserts, rivers, everything. They believe in and worship the Divine. Which they see as everything, and the Goddess and God, all being one. So everything is one, while it is different.
So, the spirit of the Divine is in everything.
Alex Sanders being one of the other big "Fathers of Wicca", as well as Gerald Gardner, has a big stand in Wicca, and Alexandrian Wicca.
